The circle itself represents a sacred symbol that has been honoured throughout time. It is a reminder of the circle of life - of birth, regeneration and death - the three aspects of creation, which are represented in yoga as Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. It also reminds us of all things that are complete and whole, the cycles of nature, the seasons and all things circular in nature - the sun, the moon, the earth, the stars, the planets.
When we, as women come together in circle with sacred intention, we open ourselves to receive. Our power and energy is amplified, our wombs connected through the invisible web of life and we journey together as one womb. Sacred women's rituals and ceremonies have been shared over lifetimes. The circle is the dwelling place of ancient feminine wisdom. In circle, we are able to receive not only one and other's individual wisdom, but the profound wisdom our our female ancestors and of Mother Gaia, Mother Devi, the Goddess herself.
In holding a Sacred Circle there is an agreement by all women to hold each other with love and presence. What is shared or spoken is done in a Sacred manner. We listen with awareness, with full presence, and wholeness and in a sacred way. There is no judgment or criticism. Then we are open to receive each woman in her wholeness. Through this process, we trust, surrender and release any any ideas of competitiveness or hierarchy within the circle - our sisterhood is strengthened.
When all that is individually experienced, felt and expressed is offered by participants into the centre of the circle, we create a powerful field of energy - we generate Shakti, the divine feminine creative power in nature. This powerful vibration illuminates all that needs to come to light, bringing clarity, awakening and ultimately closer to the Source from which we came. This is the role of sisterhoods. In the words of Padma Aon Prakash;
'Sisterhoods are here to generate Shakti and in this generation transmute suffering in both men & women. Sisterhoods are here to support the flowering of a new consciousness based on equality, a new society based on loving wisdom and harmony between men & women'.
